Great...simple to understand info I was looking for! Thanks!
yes i like it thank so much very helpful
It was very useful, but a little confused. Broccoli is listed in both the foods to avoid list and foods to eat more of list. Judging by other websites, its a food to avoid.i think broccoli uncooked is more of a threat as to being goitrogenic, i've read if you cook it long enough, it destroys or breaks down the enzymes or qualities that make it more goitrogenic(thyroid interferring ).
I also think it depends upon the person. One person might affected greatly while eating cruciferous vegetables, another person' body may shrug it off, not all hypothyroidism maybe caused by same things.(not saying diet causes it) but we know diet affects your health especially with certain diseases, that is why broccoli is in question here. for example, you have hashimotos thyroiditis, considered a disease,(what i have). then you have regular hypothyroidism. we know antibodies are present in the blood of hashimotos thyroid patients. Maybe those people are more touchy when certain bacteria or viruses come into play. I don't know all the answers, not even doctors can tell you what causes hashimotos.

I have become rather depressed over the diagnosis for a number of reasons...my hairloss, weight gain and infertility! As a young lady is every girls dream to look physically attractive..but with the exceeding weight gain and drastic hairloss, how can I not be depressed.I am so deperate to live a normal life..have a baby and be the person I once was...I am too young to live with this curse ...please if there is anybody that have the similiar problems like me..I urge you to reach out...I want to know how you survived this..or can you ever survive this disease?Thank youRosehi, i suffer the same symptoms as you and i am only 24, feel the same. hair loss, constipation, weight gain, my throat hurts, i am talkin levo-thyro somehting. I feel $%&*@$%& to, but I recommend to to do excerise because you will feel better. tke careDear Rosie, i was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism in 2004 and since then, i hv been living with it. initially when i felt lethargic, could do normal house chores etc, i did not even know the reason of the symptoms. then i read an article and i came to know about this ailment. i got my tests done and eventually diagnosed it.
the key to living a normal lifestyle is take no "STRESS". trust me if you 'll find ways of finding happiness in small things, then half of your ailment in gone:)

I can tell from experience that it takes 3 months for the medicine to show results. And If you were to take care of your eating habits, you will start feeling better soon. But will have to be patient. Also, I am not sure how active are you. Incase you have been exercising regularly or have had an active lifestyle with lot of physical work, then please try to keep up with the routine. If not then give yourself a little time and start gradually with some fitness program...its a MUST!!
Hope the information was helpful
I was diagnosed 6 years ago when I was just 25 and I do believe it was from eating HUGE amounts of soy! I tried to go completely vegan and ate a lot of pre-made foods and about three glasses of soy milk a day.... I had NO IDEA what I was doing to my self! I went from Healthy 145-160 very fit person... to 225 chunky, sore, sleepy and unmotivated! Not to mention the hair loss, constipation and memory problems..... I take 175mcg a day. It does get better the cloudiness of my mind has gone and even most of the pains BUT the weight, sleepiness and hair loss are still there.
BUT I just had twins!!!!! They are healthy and awesome!
Once you can get your dose right you can have babies!
They started me at 25mcg a day till now at 175mcg. I'm STILL working on the still present issues and have found eating less meat no soy helps.... I dooooo love bacon though :) so its SOOOOO hard to quit meat totally but it is a goal for me, I'm just doing a lot more research ahead of time..... this time!
Good luck to all of you guys and gals..... its hard but i feel knowing WHY we feel this way is have the battle!
I am a 60 yr old male who was diagnosed at 16 with thyroid problems. They did not call it hypothyroidism at that time, but they still insisted I take hormone replacement tabs. When I was 24, I started taking thyroid medication, and have been taking them ever since. I can tell you that they work great, but do not stop taking them. If you will pay attention to what symptoms are, you will notice, Rosie, that one of them is depression and hair loss. It is natural with hypothyroidism. But beating it means taking a thyroid medication prescribed by a doctor. Please, take a medication, plus exercise, and eat the right foods. It will be a blessing you will not forget. And with hypothyroidism comes weight gain. If you stay on your medication, diet correctly, and exercise, you will come out a winner. Just remember, it will take all 3 things to get you back to normal, no amount of exercise alone will reduce your weight, no matter what. I recommend you talk with your physician about what is right for YOU. You will be amazed at the results when you finally start treating hypothyroidism correctly. And, your life will be so much better. You can begin to see the results in as little as 2-3 weeks, believe me. A warning tho: do not take soy in any form, nor use these iodine supplements unless your doctor says you are iodine defficient. It goes against your thyroid. Hope you get better soon.I am 28 and suffering from hypo thyroid since 2.5 years. I had been diagonized with this before concieving. This was not an hindrance at all. Just have this test done and go to the endocrynolist and gynae to maintain this levels appriopriate. and dont forget to take the tablets in empty stomach.(better take this early morning). and avoid any food that is directly affecting throid functionality.
Now I have delivered my baby with no issues and the baby is 11 months old.
So dont worry and get your tests done today!!!
@Tonya from Akron, Ohio and everyone else...
I had this problem too, but I noticed when I ate no meat my thyroid got worst. So I would suggest to you not quit eating meat at this time, since ailing thyroids need ez protein. In time you can reduce to nothing when the body becomes balanced again. I just eat a bit of lean organic fish and/or chicken twice per day. I also recommend going to bed early (very important also) to get quality sleep and walking outside in the sun every day. These things have helped me a lot! Good luck to all!
I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 3 years ago. I take Naturethroid or Westhroid thyroid medicine. It's really helped me keep my weight down. Others that I know on Synthroid seem to have more trouble losing weight. I do cardio almost everyday, 45 minutes to an hour. I also eat very clean organic protein. No soy, corn, dairy or wheat. I will have brown rice, brown rice flour etc. I suggest getting to a doctor, I go to a Naturopath, who can figure out if you have any digestive or food allergies. I'm also on Evening Primrose Oil which has helped my skin and hair. I am also on Thyroforte by Evergreen which has helped me decrease my medication from 3 1/2 pills a day to 2 pills. My thyroid made me miserable for a long time so I wanted to share my experience to hopefully help someone not go through this.hey i got diagnosed with thyroid 6 years backand i m on synthroid and i have major issues with my weight. i go to gym regularly n workout for good 30 to 45 mins and more sometimes but even loosing a pound seems so hard. i have been gaining weight little by little every year n no matter what i do it just gains. i m so frustrated n every time i tell my doctor he tells me to workout more n eat well and i do eat well. i eat very healthy, no wheat, corn, soy anything. but i do eat yoghurt or milk rest. What do you do for a workout routine? I hate to break this to you, but 30 minutes or even 45 minutes is not really enough if you're trying to lose weight while fighting hypothyroidism. A good program should include 75 to 90 minutes at least 4 or 5 times a week. It might take some time to get to this point, but try going from 45 minutes to 60 minutes, etc. Within each workout, start with a short 10 to 15 minute cardio warm-up, then 30 minutes weight training circuit (trying not to sit during this time), then finish with 30 to 45 minutes cardio. The weight training circuit should emphasize major (larger) muscle groups. Squats, deadlifts, chest presses, etc are all good. Bicep curls won't help much. A program like this will have significant impact on the effectiveness of your weight loss results.Yes, there is something that works for sure. I was diadn. over 15 years ago, and Weight watchers.... is the only diet plan with moderate excerise that DOES WORK
I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism over a month ago. My doc has prescribed thyroxine 12.5 mcg which i take daily.
I seem to be suffering with breathing difficulties which although started before i got diagnosed but lately seem to have worsened. I have to make such an effort to breathe sufficiently, as if there is some heavy weight preventing me from breathing in fully.
Has anyone else experienced something similar??? And did u manage to find anything that actually helped?
I would really appreciate yr comments as I am desperately trying to find what to do!!!I experienced this about 5 or 6 yrs ago. I worked hard to get more cardio over the years and now this is completely gone. I was able to notice significant improvements in breathing within one season or several months of consistent effort. Your results will vary depending on your age, how often you work out, etc.My mom is diagnosed Hypo-thyroid and had the same problem as you. She would breath heavily from simply walking up the stairs or going for a short walk outside. She is active and strong, but still felt a weight on her chest. She found that when she omitted all dairy from her diet her breathing problems and congestion disappeared. It's a big sacrifice for some but the side effects are worth it!
Good luck!
